Steve Young

HGGC - Co-Founder, Chairman & Managing Partner

Steve co-founded HGGC in 2007 and is a member of the Fund V, Fund IV, Fund III, Fund II, and HGCP Fund Investment Committees. Steve has been involved in all phases of the firm’s development since its inception and directs HGGC’s firm governance, investment decisions, and investor relations.

Steve’s current and prior board and portfolio involvement includes Fund IV investments Aspire Holdings, Dentive, Entrata, Grand Fitness Partners, Marmic, and PCF Insurance; Fund III investments AMI, Better Being, Beauty Industry Group, Denodo, Fortra, Idera, Mi9, Monotype, and RPX; Fund II investments 4over, AutoAlert, Davies, Dealer-FX, Dynata, FPX, Integrity, Selligent, Serena Software, and Stova; and HGCP investments hybris, Innovative Interfaces, MyWebGrocer, and Sunquest. In addition to his investment responsibilities, Steve is a member of the Compensation, DEI, ESG, Marketing, Talent, and Valuation Committees within HGGC.

 

Steve founded and chairs the Forever Young Foundation, which is the organization that is a primary benefactor of the portion of HGGC’s carried interest proceeds that is used to support extensive philanthropic work in children’s causes around the world. Steve is also a director on the boards of the Capital Impact Foundation and the Workday Foundation. In addition, Steve is currently the broadcast host (and former International Spokesperson) for the Children’s Miracle Network, which has raised over $1 billion worldwide to benefit children’s hospitals.

 

Steve’s professional football career spanned more than fifteen years in the NFL, primarily with the San Francisco 49ers, where he received numerous accolades, including Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XXIX, Sports Illustrated and Sporting News’ Player of the Year from 1992 - 1994 and the NFL’s Most Valuable Player for 1992 and 1994. In 2005, Steve was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. At his retirement, Steve was also the highest-rated quarterback in NFL history.

Steve established HGGC (formerly known as Huntsman Gay Capital Partners) in 2007 with Rich Lawson, industrialist Jon M. Huntsman and Robert C. Gay and previously was Co-Founder and Managing Director of Sorenson Capital, a private equity firm that focused on middle- market leveraged buyouts in the Western United States.

 

Steve received his J.D. from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University and his B.S. in Finance and Political Science from Brigham Young University.

Rich Lawson

Rich co-founded HGGC in 2007 and is a member of the Fund V, Fund IV, Fund III, Fund II, and HGCP Fund Investment Committees. Rich has been involved in all phases of the firm’s development since its inception and directs HGGC’s firm governance, investment decisions, and investor relations.

 

Rich’s current and prior board and portfolio involvement includes the Firm’s Fund IV investments Aspire and PCF Insurance; Fund III investments AMI, Better Being, Beauty Industry Group, Denodo, Fortra, Idera, Mi9, RPX and Monotype; Fund II investments 4over, AutoAlert, Davies, Dynata, Dealer-FX, FPX, Integrity, Selligent, Serena Software, and Stova; and HGCP Fund investments hybris, Innovative Interfaces, MyWebGrocer, and Sunquest. In addition to his investment responsibilities, Rich is a member of the Marketing Committee, Compensation, Finance and Operations, Investor Relations, Legal and Compliance, and Valuation Committees within HGGC.

 

Rich also serves as a Director, Chairman emeritus or trustee of several philanthropic and cultural institutions, including the Capital Impact Foundation, San Francisco Zoo, Wasatch Adaptive Sports, and the Forever Young Foundation, the organization that is a primary benefactor of the portion of HGGC’s carried interest proceeds that is used to support extensive philanthropic work in children’s causes around the world.

 

Rich established HGGC (formerly known as Huntsman Gay Capital Partners) in 2007 with Steve Young, industrialist Jon M. Huntsman and Robert C. Gay and previously was Co-Founder and Managing Director of Sorenson Capital, a private equity firm that focused on middle- market leveraged buyouts in the Western United States. Prior to Sorenson Capital, Rich was President and Chief Executive Officer of enterprise software company Found, Inc. and worked for Morgan Stanley in the New York and Tokyo offices as a member of the Corporate Finance and Mergers, Acquisitions & Restructuring departments.

 

Rich received his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and his B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from Amherst College.

Tandem- Managing Partner, Co-founder Divvy

Alex Bean is a managing partner at Tandem Ventures, an investment group focused on leveraging operator experience to drive investments in promising startups. 


Before Tandem Ventures, Alex co-founded Divvy, a business expense and budget management platform. Under his guidance, Divvy experienced rapid growth, leading to a $2.5 billion exit. 

 

Originally from Seattle, Alex lives in Highland, Utah with his family. Alex has been married to his wife Megan for 18 years, and they have four children, two girls, and two boys. Alex enjoys playing golf, pickleball, skiing, and spending time with his family and friends.

With more than 16 years of experience in financial planning and investment management, Ryan has been helping corporate executives, entrepreneurs, and institutions pursue their goals and simplify their financial lives.

 

Prior to joining Raymond James in 2019, Ryan spent 11 years at other well-recognized firms such as Morgan Stanley, Fidelity Investments, and Wells Fargo Advisors.
